Best Series to Watch for Comfort and Nostalgia

A woman watching TV with a bowl in her hand.

Best series to watch are not always the ones everyone is talking about. For me, they’re the ones I come back to again and again—series that bring me comfort, make me laugh, or allow me to feel all kinds of emotions in the quiet moments of life.

As a Brazilian living in the U.S., I often find myself rewatching old favorites or discovering new teen romances that fill my heart with nostalgia. I usually enjoy them alone, skipping to my favorite scenes or just letting them play in the background while I cook or fold laundry. Here are some of my most loved series—from childhood shows to current obsessions—that I truly consider the best series to watch.

Best Series to Watch if You Love Deep Teen Dramas: One Tree Hill (2003–2012)

Genre: Teen Drama, Romance
Seasons: 9
Where to Watch: Hulu, Max

One Tree Hill tells the story of two half-brothers, Lucas and Nathan, who share more than just a last name. Set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, the series follows their personal growth through high school, college, and beyond.

I’ve watched this show in full at least four times. It has everything—romance, heartbreak, ambition, music, friendship. It grows with you, and the characters feel like family. Sometimes I rewatch whole seasons, but most of the time, I just jump to my favorite episodes. I already know the scenes I love.

Perfect for: fans of long emotional journeys and powerful character development.

Best Series to Watch When You Want to Feel All the Feelings: Dawson’s Creek (1998–2003)

Genre: Drama, Romance
Seasons: 6
Where to Watch: Hulu, Prime Video

Even though it aired in the late ’90s, I only watched Dawson’s Creek as an adult—and I’m glad I did. Back when it was on TV, I thought it was slow and a little boring. But rewatching it later, I finally understood its emotional depth.

The show explores the relationships and growing pains of Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen in a small coastal town. What touched me most was how real and raw the characters felt. And yes, I’m absolutely on Team Pacey.

Perfect for: those who enjoy poetic dialogue and love triangles with meaning.

Full House (1987–1995)

Genre: Family Comedy
Seasons: 8
Where to Watch: Max, Apple TV

This one is pure childhood joy. Full House follows a widowed father raising three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law and best friend. It’s silly, sweet, and full of feel-good moments.

What I love is that you don’t need to follow the story closely—you can jump into any episode and still have fun. It’s the kind of show that feels like a warm hug after a long day.

Perfect for: family-friendly laughs and cozy weekend mornings.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022–2025)

Genre: Teen Romance, Drama
Seasons: 2 (ongoing)
Where to Watch: Prime Video

This show is the definition of summer vibes. Belly, the main character, is caught in a love triangle between two brothers she’s known all her life—and things heat up when she finally comes of age.

I love how the show balances lighthearted moments with deeper emotional themes like grief, change, and growing up. It reminds me of the excitement and uncertainty of being a teenager again.

Perfect for: those who love beachy settings, teenage romance, and dreamy soundtracks.

Never Have I Ever (2020–2023)

Genre: Teen Comedy-Drama
Seasons: 4
Where to Watch: Netflix

Created by Mindy Kaling, this series tells the story of Devi—a smart, stubborn, hilarious Indian-American girl trying to survive high school while coping with her father’s sudden death.

I love Devi’s chaos. She’s messy and emotional, but that’s what makes her so real. Watching her navigate friendships, crushes, and family pressures reminded me that growing up is hard no matter who you are.

Perfect for: quick binge-sessions filled with humor and heartfelt moments.

Best Series to Watch if You Want a Germany Romance: Maxton Hall (2024– ?)

Genre: Teen Romance, Drama
Seasons: 1 (so far)
Where to Watch: Prime Video

This German teen drama hooked me from episode one. Set in an elite private school, it follows Ruby, a scholarship student with big dreams, and James, the school’s wealthy, arrogant, and secretly troubled golden boy.

It only has one season so far, but it’s based on a trilogy of books by Mona Kasten—Save Me, Save You, and Save Us. I loved the show so much that I bought all three books and read them in just a week and a half. Yes, it was that addictive!

The show gives off strong Gossip Girl and Elite vibes, but with a more emotional and character-driven story. There’s plenty of drama, tension, and romance—but also deeper moments that explore privilege, ambition, and vulnerability.

Perfect for: fans of European settings, strong female leads, and irresistible chemistry.

My Comfort Series Ritual

I rarely sit down to watch something new unless I’m in the mood to discover a story that feels like home. These shows? They are home.

I usually watch them alone—sometimes with snacks, sometimes while folding laundry, sometimes just because I need to hear voices I already know. I don’t always rewatch them from beginning to end. Most of the time, I skip to the parts I love: a certain kiss, a fight, a moment of change.

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing how a story ends—and choosing to relive it anyway.

Final Thoughts: These Stories Stay With Me

Some people read the same book over and over. Others play the same songs. For me, it’s rewatching these shows that brings peace.

They’ve been with me through different chapters of life—from growing up in Brazil to raising kids in Texas. They remind me who I was and who I still am deep down.

So if you’re searching for the best series to watch—the kind that wraps you in nostalgia, makes you feel something real, and becomes a part of your everyday life—these are mine. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll become yours too.
